Welcoming Students & Communication Systems

We spent the first few days of 7th grade science getting to know each other. Students had fun demonstrating their engineering skills while building an index card tower filled with the group's similarities.

All classes have now reviewed and agreed to follow the science safety expectations included below.

In an effort to establish a productive classroom culture, we also brainstormed classroom norms that we would like to expect from ourselves and each other. These can be viewed on our welcome letters.

The beginning of the year can move fairly quickly. We have been learning about various communication systems and their components. Students will be having their first formal learning check next week.

In order to facilitate conversations about your student's day in science, here are some questions you could ask:
1.
a. Ask them to explain the whiteboard drawing activity.
    b. Can they name the various components of the system within this example? (source, encoder, transmitter, receiver, decoder, destination, storage)
2. Can they list some different communication systems?

From there we will be learning about forces of attraction within magnetism and electricity. Look for more to come on this!

We are always happy to be available for communication. If you have a question, please be in touch.
